Where should a complete Newbie start?

The page linked as Quick Start, on the navigation panel, is intended to be the absolute beginners' page. It's much easier to guess what a beginner to contributing will need to know, than it is for guessing what a new reader will want, so perhaps you could help us improve that page? We could start with a thread on the Quick Start discussion page, to work out what's needed. It may be that the information is already there, but not obviously available, in which case links may be sufficient, or it may need additional information writing. Inspiration is sorely needed .

I've tried to ensure that most of the stuff needed by new users would be in the category Getting Started - maybe a page that sorts those links into logical groups might help? Please do keep talking about this. I want to hear your ideas.
