It makes good sense. However, in that case I think we should remove links to them and either remove them completely or only link to them through a page of old and unmaintained pages.
We are experimenting with the possibility of using an Archive namespace, but ran into a problem. Hopefully this will be possible soon. If it's not fixed before then we should tackle it at the WebWorld2011 sprint.
