The translations of the ToolBox page are seriously out of date, and I don't think we can get them back in sync with the English page - it was at one time removed from the translation system and then reinstated much later, so now it thinks, that the existing translations are OK even though they are not.
Anne and I agreed that it is best simply to delete the existing translations. We'll wait a bit though, to give you time to rescue your work. Some of it can be reused.
Ok, backup done. I think the Italian translation is updated because I checked every single messages some days ago. I believe the problem is related to the re-used numbers of text units.
You are right. There doesn't seem to be any reason to delete the Italian page. Your translation work apparently started after the English page was re-marked for translation, and so is unaffected by the problem. I thought I had checked, but apparently I only saw what I expected to see. I'll just leave your page alone, then. Sorry about that.
It was affected by the problem. I updated every messages even if the translation system didn't mark them as fuzzy.
I see. It seems odd, that this could work. The numbering of units must have been out of whack - were there even the same number of units?
Yes, if I understand rightly your question.
From my point of view the problem is the removing of the old translation tags(when the page was removed from translation) and the keeping of the old translated messages.
I believe the translation system ignored the page was added for translation a first time, it didn't know about the existence of old English text units and it used the old translated messages according to the matching of the numbers.
I know! This probably doesn't add nothing new to your considerations about this strange issue. :)
We may naver understand this fully. Let's just be grateful, it worked thist time, and try to avoid repetitons.
If we ever again decide we should temporarily move something out of translation, it might be a good idea to remove all translate tags, so that putting it back into the system will generate a whole new set of tags. OTOH, from reading your thread, you managed to revive the content, and I think that a newly generated set of tags would lose that. Is that correct? If we can make a plan to safeguard work, we should, but if there is no sensible solution we'll just have to be careful and keep fingers crossed.
I fact, the translate tags were removed - that is why I am so puzzeled that the translation could be revived. In the Translate: page at least, I saw only the old units. I then assumed that units with numbers beyond those of the old page would be lost to translations.
Btw Yurchor thinks that we may have the same problem with other pages! See User_talk:Yurchor#The_ToolBox_page_1212.
