← KOffice

This page explains how you can download KOffice for using on particular operating systems like FreeBSD, Linux, Windows or Mac OS X.

Developers: If you want to download the source code (one for all operating system), please see the KOffice wiki.

The newest stable version is: [http://www.koffice.org/news/announcements/stable/koffice-2-2-2-released/ 2.3 .3 ]. Improvements and fixes for this version will be released later.

We are now working on version 2.3, so called "unstable" (see Schedules).

FreeBSD usually offers the latest version of KOffice and of its translations; you can keep track of the port here. Development versions and final releases are always tested in area51.

There are two ways to install 3rd party software on FreeBSD, as explained in detail here. Choose the way you like most.

Build the ports

The recommended way: you'll always have the newest version (of course, you need an up to date ports tree), and you'll be able to configure some options.

# cd /usr/ports/editors/koffice-kde4 && make install clean
or (if you have portmaster)
# portmaster editors/koffice-kde4
or (if you have portupgrade)
# portinstall editors/koffice-kde4

Install the packages

Faster, but not guaranteed to be up to date.

# pkg_add -r koffice-kde4
# portmaster -PP editors/koffice-kde4
# portupgrade -PP editors/koffice-kde4

Mix ports and packages

Alternatively, you can use portmaster or portupgrade to mix ports and packages and get the latest versions of every software.

# portmaster -P editors/koffice-kde4
# portinstall -P editors/koffice-kde4

Arch Linux

The current available version is 2.2.0. The [extra] repository contains the meta-package koffice-meta-koffice that can be installed to get all of koffice, or you can install modular packages (such as koffice-kword to get only kword).

# pacman -S koffice-meta-koffice

For Debian Sid (unstable) KOffice 2.1.1 is available from the experimental distribution. KOffice 2.2.0 with its localization packages (koffice-l10n-yourlanguage) can be installed after adding the qt-kde repository. To install from the command line:

$apt-get install koffice

Debian 5.0 (Lenny, stable) still ships KOffice 1.6.1.

Fedora release KOffice as individual packages. Use the command
yum install koffice*
. If you wish to install only certain components, list the packages with a brief description, using
yum search koffice
or list the packagename together with version and repository information using
yum list koffice*
. You can install multiple packages at the same time, using
yum install kexi, kword

This will, of course, install any dependencies as well.

Gentoo provides a splitted KOffice installation:

  • app-office/koffice-meta

This package installs all available KOffice components like KWord, KSpread, etc.

By enabling the nls USE flag, the localization package (app-office/koffice-l10n) is also installed and provides the languages which are set by the LINGUAS variable in /etc/make.conf.

To install only single components, choose from these packages:

  • app-office/karbon
  • app-office/kchart
  • app-office/kplato
  • app-office/kpresenter
  • app-office/krita
  • app-office/kspread
  • app-office/kword

While the default Portage tree doesn't provide always the most up-to-date packages or even beta or SCM ones (-9999 packages which build KOffice directly from SVN), these are provided through the 'kde' overlay which can be added using layman:

layman -a kde

(see the layman documentation for more details).

Packages in Mandriva can be installed from the command line as root using urpmi, or from the GUI using the 'Install & Remove Software' option from 'Configure Your Computer' (mcc).

Install the package koffice to get the full suite, or individual applications.

Individual package names are kword, kpresenter, kexi, kspread, krita.

Use the Synaptic package manager to install the package(s).

  • Package name for KOffice: koffice
  • Localization packages available koffice-l10n-{yourlanguage} (e.g. koffice-l10n-pl)
