"Send data to other computers"

Jump to: navigation, search

Do we really want to "receive and send data to other computers"? This sounds like an expression from the early days of networking where you would send "H-e-l-l-o" and celebrate 3 letters received in a row. Shouldn't it be about the people that use those computers? I wasn't sure if I was allowed to just change it.

PS: Sorry I edited the header before, I didn't notice the appropriate link...

That was written a long time ago, and you are right, it could be better expressed. Perhaps "exchange data with other computers"? Anyway, you are free to improve the wording. The principle is that if you feel that your change might be problematic for the original author you look in the history, and leave a message on his Talk page before making the change. If there is no reason to worry about it, just make the change. The safeguard is that we (admins) can rollback if we see something unpleasant, and we do monitor changes, so we don't worry about such things.

I wouldn't even use the word "computer" in there. After all, what/who you want to communicate or exchange data with is the people that use those computers, not the devices itself (unless you are a network admin perhaps). I'll think of something :)
