That was written a long time ago, and you are right, it could be better expressed. Perhaps "exchange data with other computers"? Anyway, you are free to improve the wording. The principle is that if you feel that your change might be problematic for the original author you look in the history, and leave a message on his Talk page before making the change. If there is no reason to worry about it, just make the change. The safeguard is that we (admins) can rollback if we see something unpleasant, and we do monitor changes, so we don't worry about such things.
