Kubuntu — дружня до користувачів операційна система на основі Linux, у якій використано Стільницю Плазма KDE. Маючи передбачуваний шестимісячний розклад випуску і будучи частиною проекту Ubuntu, Kubuntu є дистрибутивом Linux для кожного.

До складу Kubuntu включено понад 1000 типових пакунків, зокрема програм та допоміжних засобів. Крім того, ви матимете доступ до понад 64000 інших пакунків для ваших потреб. Kubuntu засновано на ядрі Linux. До системи включено основні програми Ubuntu, а також програмне забезпечення KDE. До списку основних програм Kubuntu включено програмне забезпечення для найзагальніших потреб, зокрема:

Перегляду сторінок інтернету
Керування особистими даними, зокрема електронною поштою
Офісні програми
Програми для відтворення мультимедійних файлів

Linux is an operating system kernel that resembles the Unix operating system. The kernel is the main software required for any operating system, because it provides a communication bridge between hardware and software. Linux has become a leading element of the worldwide movement to embrace free and open source software. The term "GNU/Linux" is a way of referring to operating systems based on the Linux kernel combined with parts from the GNU Project.

KDE is an international technology community that creates and supports free software for desktop and portable computing.
