In KMail's Settings -> Configure KMail -> Security tab -> Miscellaneous, select GnuPG Settings, then Configure. On the GPG Agent page, give a path to which logs can be written (Write server mode logs to FILE), in case of problems. You can check the log in KMail's Tools -> Filter Log Viewer.
