Open Babel è un progetto creato per l'interconversione dei diversi formati di file usati in programmi di chimica computazionale e di modeling molecolare. Da KDE SC 4, Kalzium utilizza OpenBabel (versione 2.1 e superiori) se installato. E' impiegato per calcolare e mostrare strutture 3D in un visualizzatore molecolare basato su OpenGL.
