I think some words about mp4 and mka files should be added to the [[Amarok#Hints.2C_Tips_and_FAQs|Hints, Tips and FAQs section]]. Currently Amarok will refuse to play mp4 and mka files due to mime types issue (I discussed this topic all the day on IRC in #amarok and #kde-multimedia), there is also [[https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=267319 | bug #267319]] open about that. A quick workaround is known: rename mp4 files (with audio only inside) to mp4a and mka to mkv. There might be more file types with this problem I'm not aware of. If you are ok I will edit the page to add this.

EDIT 1: I forgot to say this depends also on the phonon backend you are using. For example using the VLC backend solve this problem (but other may show up, like play an mp4 with video contenet but this is off topic). Actually on linux the gstreamer backend (the most used one I think) shows this problem.

I think some words about mp4 and mka files should be added to the Hints, Tips and FAQs section. Currently Amarok will refuse to play mp4 and mka files due to mime types issue (I discussed this topic all the day on IRC in #amarok and #kde-multimedia), there is also bug #267319 open about that. A quick workaround is known: rename mp4 files (with audio only inside) to mp4a and mka to mkv. There might be more file types with this problem I'm not aware of. If you are ok I will edit the page to add this.
