When you get to the end of a line, hit <keycap>Enter</keycap> and '''KDevelop''' will automatically start a new line that starts with an asterisk and indent the cursor by one character. After documenting an item and <keycap>Enter</keycap> is hit outside of the documentation area, the gray highlight is removed.
