The Plasma Workspace este una din tehnologiile cheie ale KDE SC 4.x (de asemenea cunoscut ca şi "Pillars of KDE"), şi una din cele mai vizibile pentru utilizatori.Cum Plasma Desktop tratează în mod diferit interfaţa utilizatorului faţă de cea a desktop-ului tradiţional, pot exista confuzii cu privire la ce este Plasma Desktop, ce face şi cum efectuează sarcini comune.
