Multilanguage
Are there any plans to have pages in other language than english? In Techbase it is really nice to have it. Specially users are frequently using only there native language. Cheers. --Mark Ziegler 12:52, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

:The multilanguage template is in place, see (and use) this template. --danimo 16:17, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

::Should we add i18n template to every page or just for main pages? --Mark Ziegler 09:59, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

::Is it possible to just provide a wiki platform, and let users to fill it in our own native language instead of translating the original page?  I mean, for example, make a page http://userbase.kde.org/zh_TW/ or a site called http://zh_TW.userbase.kde.org/. -- Franklin

:::The problem as I see it is that information would not be exchanged across all available languages.  I don't know the answer to that, so would welcome any suggestions.  --annew 09:21, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

::::I do not see any problem, this is how wikipedia.org work. If needed, we can develop a script to do some verifications accross all userbase wiki. What do you think about that? --Sheedy 05:45, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

:::::You mean it would be possible to pick up content from any language and have it translated to all the other languages?  Even if it could only be done to English plus three or four languages it would be awesome.  This is way beyond my capability, so please tell us more about what you envisage.  --annew 20:49, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

:Hi there, nice initiative for KDE fans! Uh, just raising a question here. Should the Random page link really take you to a page in a different language? I personally guess not. Not much fun / use / value in being redirected to a random chinese page (obviously I can't read chinese). Any other opinions?

::Fair point, but I think it might need webdev/php skills to do anything about that, and I don't have them.  Sorry.  --annew 16:15, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

:::Having Mediawiki installation per language like in Wikipedia would solve this, among other things. --Usp 14:56, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
::::You could well be right, but implementation is non-trivial, and we just don't have the man-power.  If you are in a position to help with such an implementation, please join us on freenode IRC, channel #kde-www, to discuss it. --annew 16:54, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
:::::Do Userbase has this plan ? If zh.userbase.kde.org comes true , conversion between zh_CN and zh_TW will be very very easy by Mediawiki's ZhConversion.php . I don't need to modify manually .--Qiii2006 05:15, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
::::::To be honest, at this time I don't know enough about the subject, and neverendingo is on vacation, so I can't discuss it with him.  My first impression is that a name-space would have to be created for every possible language, then every single page would have to be copied and pasted into a newly-created page using that name-space, and finally the original one deleted.  I'll read up some more this week, to make sure that I've understood it correctly.  We have been saying for ages that we need to organise a 'sprint' so that we can get together and work on various issues - this is certainly one that would benefit from such a meeting.  I'll let you know if I find out anything more useful. --annew 09:05, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Please help make documentation more visual
I noticed many pages in the documentation wiki are text only (that goes for techbase too), for example: Plasma
New users reading that might have no idea what that page is about.

In truth I had found that applications do have a screenshot (such as Okular ), but I don't think it is enough.

::I do agree.  It was never intended to be enough - merely a starter.  Do help us improve this.  Collect suitable images and upload them with the link on the left, then add them in at appropriate places.  The more people that contribute, the better the resource will be.  --annew 20:29, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Dutch translation UserBase
I am working on the Dutch translation of the UserBase. So far, I have finished the page Welcome_to_KDE_UserBase_(nl). The linked pages are not yet translated, but I will start with that soon.
The next step is to make a link to this page on the home page. To do this, I will first read the instructions.
I understand that the translation system will change shortly, but that it has no influence om what I have done so far.
The page http://userbase.kde.org/Template:I18n/Language_Navigation_BarFoo_%28nl%29, which I was not supposed to create, can be removed.
Hannie

:OK - I can remove that for you.  There was a typo in the template, which stopped Nederlands showing up. I've corrected it, and now your translated page is correctly linked to the main page.  In future you will be able to use the language bar to create your translated pages :-)

:It's strange that no-one noticed, or told me that they'd noticed, the problem before.  Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

:In the interests of consistency (and forward-planning to increase usability by non-English-speakers) could you please complete the Dutch column on the page Category_Translation_한국어_to_Brazilian_Portuguese? Thanks.  The idea is that we will have index pages and category pages in native languages, as we get a little further into the translation project.  You will then need to change the category statement on your Dutch Welcome page :-) If you want to ask questions,  you're welcome to email me, or, better, to ask on IRC - #kde-www. --annew 18:04, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

::I do want to ask some questions, but I cannot find your email address, it is not on the page User: Annew.

:::You can use my Talk page, or you can email annew at kde dot org. --annew 15:08, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Template help
I've noticed some of the manuals that are split up into several pages have tables at the bottom with navigation links to the previous/next pages. I reckon this would be better served with Mediawiki templates. Then if you want you can change the style at a later date and everything will remain consistent. I made three templates just for this, Prev, Next and Prevnext if anyone wants to look. What do you think?

There are probably a bunch of other things I haven't noticed that might be better served by templates. I can help if anyone wants (I'm not great at making them, but I know how to do it).--Xiyizi 04:51, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

:I'm definitely interested in discussing your ideas.  We are in the process of updating the mediawiki engine (should be complete very soon as testing is advanced), and have several improvements in mind.  Can you join us on IRC? - #kde-www - it makes sense to be planning now, so that we can get improvements out there in the new version.  --annew 09:23, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

::Thinking a bit more about the Prev/Next templates, traditionally there was a centre entry, for Contents.  What do you think about adding that?  You could call it Manual Home, if that seems more appropriate. --annew 10:29, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
