Translating Categories

Your first attempt,, was close :-) I think it should probably be. This will create a redlink, and on the page it links to you should write a sentence or so describing, in Greek, the generality of pages that will be in that language.

The first part "Category" tells the system to create or use an existing category page. The second part requires a translation, so that Greek speakers can find related pages in their own language.

To ensure consistency we ask for category definitions to be added to tables - new translators can then follow those as guidelines. I've added a column in Category_Translation,_Esperanto_to_Suomi(fi) for you. It looks squashed at the moment, but when you start adding definitions it should re-align the content.

Hope that helps Face-smile.png

Thanks very much, it seems that i had nt got how it works. Now i added the caqtegories:,_Esperanto_to_Suomi(fi)

But i have a problem with the link, i cannot add the category:

I have the message "invalid token (badtoken)" I see that in the page of the category "Για να ξεκινήσετε/el" the link is :

I tried to add this one to with the html letters but it did nt work.

It may be a simple mis-understanding Face-smile.png. Maybe you tried to edit the Greek page? You can't do that. You have to go back to the English page and call up the messages again (you can ask for un-translated messages, if you wish) and simply translate the message containing the category statement. I've done that on the Welcome page, pasting in the translation you gave.

I should have also explained that we add the language code at the end of the translated categories, because there are some groups of languages that are very similar, and having the language code avoids some confusion.

there was one problem with my browser, konqueror, some fields had another translated string with that i saw in the translation extension of the wiki. With firefox i saw the "real" translations.

After that the link : :

hits to :Για_να_ξεκινήσετε/el&action=edit&redlink=1

and not to: "Για_να_ξεκινήσετε/el"

and it is marked as red (unexisting page) Is this a problem ?

I did nt understant what i have to do with the "Categories" as i cannot translate the equivalent English page. I think that the page "Για_να_ξεκινήσετε/el " will be composed with subcategories automaticaly, so it is an autogenerated page (?) or i have to add a text here :

Sorry, i am a little confused with this point.

I think it is ok now. It only needs to be edited once. Thanks :)

The English page 'Category:Getting Started' has the following text at the top:

The pages in this list all deal with subjects that you encounter when you first start to add content or edit pages in UserBase.

If you translate that, or write something similar, on Category:Για_να_ξεκινήσετε/el&action=edit&redlink=1 you will find that you no longer have a red-link Face-smile.png

I know there feels to be a lot to learn when you first start, but you seem to be getting to grips with things nicely Face-smile.png

Oops - sorry - I see you have done that already.
