Hi, Thank you so much Claus chr. Just before having to dash off to do something else this morning I noticed I had muddled up the translate-tags, and I could not get them balanced again. As I do not yet know how things like translation works, I decided to remove the tags for now, and revisit the problem tomorrow. You've saved me the hassle! And nothing on-towards has happened to the wiki, so I'll study what you've done, to learn how these translation-tags are supposed to be applied. Thanks again.

Hi, Claus chr. I had to edit the KPhotoAlbum wiki again. I read up on translate-tags. I hoped I understood how it works, and what not-to-do. But the wiki keeps telling me that there are units not marked for translation, so clearly I'm still not fluent in wiki-markup. I'll have to look into that.

What the wiki is actually trying to tell you is that new translation units have been added or existing units have been modified, but that the changes have not yet been added to the underlying database. This requires the action of an administrator (that would be me :-)). I'll admit the language could be clearer.

When editing a page you normally don't need to do anything with respect translation; it is all handled automatically by the wiki. Everything between <translate> and </translate> will be translatable. The only reason to have translate tags within the page content is to make the life of translators easier: Sometimes we make some wiki markup untranslatable, and sometimes we use them to split list items up in individual units, but other than that, there is no need for translation tags except at the beginning and end of the page. In general templates, categories and images should be translatable.

By the way: thank You for caring about the page. Unfortunately there are way too few contributors to UserBase, so like so many of our pages it really needed some love. Claus chr (talk) 08:32, 23 July 2025 (UTC)

Hello, Claus chr. Thanks for the clarification on the "back office processes" of userbase; very helpful. As to me "caring about the page": I've lately volunteered to update KPhotoAlbum's (KPA) documentation. The wiki was my first task. Next is the PDF-manual, which is a lot more work, I expect. Just out of interest: are there any figures which would make clear how many visitors KPA's userbase-wiki has?

I have no numbers for visitors to UserBase, but I was once told, that we have quite a lot of traffic. I have no idea about individual pages, though, but I have noticed that often when I do a websearch for some KDE app, links to UserBase pages appear towards the top of the list; and many software related websites links to us, so regardless of individual visits it is important for us to have up to date pages for our apps.

As to working on the manual: You may find some useful hints here. If you get stuck, I'm sure the documentation team will be happy to help.
