El sistema KDE d'entrada/eixida proporciona una única API per a operar sobre els fitxers, ja sigui local o a un servidor remot. A més, els esclaus KIO proporcionen suport individual per a alguns protocols. Especialment útils: http, ftp, sftp, smb, nfs, ssh (fish), man, tar i zip.
