JuK was originally started by Scott Wheeler in 2000. It was called QTagger at this time. Over the time it has grown into a mature audio application. It is an official part of KDE since KDE 3.2.
JuK 2.2 is part of the KDE 3.4 KDE Multimedia package. JuK packages are distributed with almost all current Linux and many Unix distributions.

JuK 3

JuK is an audio jukebox application, supporting collections of MP3, Ogg Vorbis, and FLAC audio files. It allows you to edit the "tags" of your audio files, and manage your collection and playlists. It's main focus, in fact, is on music management.

JuK 3 fa parte del pacchetto KDE 4 Multimedia. Le sue caratteristiche comprendono:

  • Collezione di file e scalette definite dall'utente
  • Possibilità di analizzare automaticamente all'avvio le cartelle per importare file musicali e scalette
  • Scalette dinamiche che si aggiornano automaticamente quando vengono variati i parametri dei file nella collezione
  • Modalità vista ad albero dove vengono generate automaticamente scalette per album, artisti e generi
  • Cronologia delle scalette che indica quali file sono stati riprodotti e quali no
  • Ricerca inline per filtrare le liste con molti oggetti visibili
  • Possibilità di indovinare le informazioni sulle canzoni a partire dal nome del file o consultando MusicBrainz
  • Rinominatore di file che può rinominarli in base alle informazioni della traccia (es. artista, titolo ecc.)
  • Lettura di tag ID3v1, ID3v2 e Ogg Vorbis con supporto alla modifica (tramite TagLib).
