Since the backends for Solid are pluggable, Solid helps application developers write less code, and have it platform independent.

Solid fornisce una singola API per la gestione dell'hardware. L'hardware è raggruppato in "domini". I domini iniziali sono correlati a HAL, NetworkManager e allo stack Bluetooth.
