KInfoCenter surgiu como parte de KControl, separando-se dele em KDE 3.1. Em KDE SC 4, até à versão 4.4 é substituído por módulos configurados em Configuração do Sistema, especialmente Solid, e será reintroduzida como uma aplicação em KDE SC 4.5.
