To identify peoples, it uses numbers, calles UIN, which means Unified Identification Number, instead. But it is also possible to log in via e-mail.

ICQ is a proprietary instant messaging program, first developed by the Israeli company Mirabilis. It uses AOL's OSCAR network protocol for sending the text messages.
