Marble 1.0 for Maemo can be installed on a Nokia N900 smartphone using a one-click installer. This page guides you through the installation process: Installation of Marble itself and -- optionally -- adding more map themes and installing support for offline routing.

For the impatient, in a nutshell: Use the one-click installer to install Marble. Additional map themes can be installed from within Maemo's program manager by installing the marble-maps package in the Navigation section. Support for offline routing is provided by the monav-routingdaemon package, again in the Navigation section.

Installing Marble

Get your N900 within reach. Don't own one? Time to move on, this page will be of no use to you. On the N900, open the web browser (Internet) and visit edu.kde.org/marble. Follow the Download link on the right hand of the page. Scroll down to the Maemo section when the page is loaded.

Click on the Marble - Download Marble-Qt for Maemo image and wait for the program manager to appear. Give it some time to load; It will ask you for permission to add the Marble (Stable) catalog.

Once you let it add the software catalog, the program manager will continue to install Marble. That's it already. You can start Marble from the application menu now.

Installing Additional Map Themes

The Marble package installed by the one-click installer uses the OpenStreetMap map theme. Looking for something different? Atlas, Satellite and many other choices will be available when you install the marble-maps package in the Navigation section of the program manager.

Within Marble, you can switch map themes in the Map View dialog.

Support for Offline Routing

Do you intend to use your N900 for routing? Without an Internet connection? Make sure to install the monav-routingdaemon package in that case. Just like the marble-maps package it can be installed from the Navigation section of the Maemo package manager.

Marble will automatically include Monav for offline routing once it is installed. You do need to install offline maps, however. This can be done conveniently from within Marble: See [[../OfflineRouting|Offline Routing]]
