KMid er en del af Extragear og bliver således den ikke nødvendigvis udsendt på samme dato som KDE SC. Den seneste stabile udgave er 2.4.0, udgivet d. 12. august 2010.

Hvad er så den aktuelle status?

Allerede implementeret

Her er nogle vigtige funktioner, som er implementeret i KMid:

• MIDI og Karaoke filer understøttes.
• Afspilning på eksterne hardware MIDI-enheder.
• Lader dig også bruge software synthezisere som Timidity++ og QSynth/FluidSynth.
• Tempo- og lydstyrkekontrol.
• Tilføjede en kontrol til pitch (transponering).
• Rythmevisning (visuel metronom).
• Konfigurerbar tegnsæt, skrifttype og farve til sangtekster.
• Spillelister (samlinger af sange).
• MIDI Mapper oversætter generelle Midi-begivenheder til begivenheder, som forstås af nogle synthesizers.
• Kanalvindue med solo/dæmpningskontroller og instrumentvælgere.
• Klaviaturvinduet bruger VMPK grafik og teknologi.
• Integration med Konqueror.
• Kører under Linux, Windows og MacOS.

Hvad er endnu ikke klart?

• Flere MIDI-outputporte - pt kan der kun spilles på en outputport.

• External soft-synths can be automatically launched at startup. A new page including FluidSynth and TiMidity++ settings has been added to the "Configure kmid2" dialog.
• Each channel may be labeled in a text field besides each channel number.
• New "lock instrument" button in the channels window to override the song's predefined instruments.
• Settings per song can be saved and automatically retrieved, including text encoding, volume, pitch, rhythm, channel labels and fixed instruments.
• The sample songs location is added to the places navigation panel in the open dialog.
• Several other usability enhancements. Many thanks to the KDE Usability Team for the suggestions.

Notes for usage

• If you use Timidity++ as a software synthesizer, you may have to install GUS patches or sound fonts. You can find them at freepats
• Fluidsynth is an alternative. It has a helpful gui called QSynth. For soundfonts, try General User GS.
• For more information and options, there is a tutorial available.
