Hi. I have never done one of these pages before so please bare with me.

I have used KDE for a couple of years already and can say that the group of individuals or individual has done an incredible job. I like it so much that there are a few of us that would like to use it in a different way. I have looked at some of the customer relation Management programs out there like sugar for example and want something simpler. if it was possible to host kontact on our own server and at the same time have 5-6 people log on to kontact through say a web interface on intranet or internet, possibly that an administrator can set up login passwords and simple restrictions would be awesome. we all use the same contact list and calendar, are currently using kontact, can email and receive from and to the same one email account, share notes etc.

This would be an incredible feature if kontact could do this. I know that google apps is out there but its on someone else s server, I would like to keep MY CONTACTS on MY SERVER. It would keep us all on the same contact base and calander, all changes that would be done by one user would imediatly also be changed on the others loged into the program at that time. ( possibly with a screen change )

Any input on this subject would be appreciated.

Dan

This was overlooked, partly because you used an inappropriate page. There are two possible places to ask questions - on the Discussion page attached to the relevant application, or for mor general queries, on your own Talk page, such as this.
The reason your input wasn't very readable was that you had leading spaces on your paragraphs, which causes text to be in a single continuous line, such as is needed for code. Removing those spaces displays the paragraph correctly.
Now for your question. It is possible to run Kontact as groupware, which would, I think, meet your needs in allowing collaboration over an intranet. However, it wouldn't use a web interface. In my opinion this is not the ideal time to start such a project, as the whole PIM suite is being re-written and will inevitably have some changes. Introducing colleagues to your project at a time of flux is a sure way to have them reject it. I would recommend that you plan to do this in, say, a year, and use the time to make yourself as familiar as possible with all elements of Kontact. By keeping your system up to date you will learn about each change as it happens, and be better prepared to support your additional users when your project is ready. --annew 14:17, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
