hoping that I reach you this way ...

I'm currently advertising my new baby:

github.com/farblos/wpg2dk

which should cover issues 1.-3. and to some extent also 4., of the issue mentioned in section "Microsoft image metadata". The main idea is to convert the WPG metadata directly from its database into XMP files.

The price one has to pay for that is complexity in procedure ...
