Why is Discover so limited in comparison?

Not only does "Discover" not compete with CLI apps, but neither does Discover compete with GUI apps suchg as "Synaptic" at all. "Synaptic" and e.g. "Packagesearch" give users far more control and functionality. Discover is very limited and leaves users with pretty little information abouit what it is that Discover is doing.
