Kopete 的目标是提供给用户一个适用于所有即时通讯系统的标准、易用界面，同时也给开发人员提供编写新插件支持新协议的便利。

所有协议都是通过插件来支持，在主程序无需知道插件载入情况下允许模块化的安装、配置和适用。
