KDE livrează nu numai un mediu desktop dar de asemenea un ecosistem software,oferind nu numai software pentru folosirea regulată a desktop-ului, dar de asemenea unelte pentru a crea un asemenea software.Fie developând pentru platformele KDE-ului sau programând în general sau facând chiar developare web,KDE oferă programe care pot ajuta să facă viaţa oricărui programator sau neprogramator mai uşoară şi mai dezvoltată.
