Den officielle betegnelse for denne type applikation er ikke-lineær videoeditor, hvilket betyder, at den redigerer dine film ikke-destruktivt. Originalen berøres ikke. Applikationen holder styr på, hvilke dele du vil have med i den endelige fil og laver til sidst et resultat ved at kombinere den oprindelige film med dine redigeringer.
